P(l)ump Up the Volume!

Full hair is back — tumbled, tousled, curly, and va-va-voom! Want to replace limp and lifeless hair with hair that’s full of bounce and volume? A few tips:

Remove the buildup.  Residue from shampoo, conditioner and any other hair products that you use can build up in your hair, making it limp. Use a clarifying shampoo occasionally to remove all of that gunk and restore your hair’s natural volume.

Choose wisely.  If you choose to buy a volumizing shampoo then be careful when deciding which one to try. Some volumizing products coat your hair to make it thicker, but volume is about lift and bounce, and if it’s coated it will be heavier and harder to lift. We carry a wide range of products and can help you find the one’s just right for YOUR hair.

Get a haircut.  Long hair is heavier and harder to lift, so for instant volume get it cut shorter. Another option is to have layers cut into it; the shorter the layers, the more volume you’ll achieve.

Different voluminous looks to have fun with:

Tumbled and Tousled
When hair is lifted but sleek on top, with lots of volume on the sides, the effect is a slightly bed-head-y but very glamorous look. Loosely rolled ends add to the effect of lush texture. Body Boost: To get this look, but avoid “retro” hair, tease just a few random spots for modern-day volume.

Weightless and Windblown
If you’re always trying to tame your fine-hair flyaways, here’s your chance to let them go wonderfully wild instead. With this sexy style, choppy, thinned-out edges and loose layers give your hair more room to move. Body Boost: For added lift and height, spray a light-hold hairspray from underneath your hair.

Lifted and Layered
For a short and sassy ‘do that looks current, add volume to the top but keep the sides sleek. Avoid a too-perfect, helmet-shaped look by using your fingers to create lots of space between the top layers. Body Boost: To steal this style, use medium-size Velcro rollers on top of your hair after it’s dried. Heat for a couple of minutes, let cool, and remove.

Soft and Spiraled
For lush, loose locks, try a dramatic curly-haired coif. To save time, but still get the carefree result, create curls on the outer layer of hair only. Body Boost: To get curls that float, flip your head upside down and run a large-tooth comb through the underside of your hair.
